Nokia phone maker HMD Global has launched Fusion X1, a child-friendly smartphone at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 event in Barcelona.

Fusion X1 is a tailor-made smartphone for teens and comes with several child-safety features. It is co-developed by HMD and SafeToNet. It boasts of an on-device AI-powered protection feature, which is capable of automatically detecting and blocking harmful content before it reaches the user, without relying on external apps that can be bypassed.

To turn on child safety features on Fusion X1, parents have to subscribe to Xplora plat – starting from €4.99 per month.

The subscription offers a customisable app and internet access. It allows parents to choose to block social media platforms and also be able to control the time limit for the internet browsing on the phone.

Another benefit of subscribing to Xplora is the location tracking capability. The device continuously shares location details at 20-second intervals with safe zones, emergency SOS calling, low battery alerts, and remote device access for parents.

With the School Mode function turned on, it will reduce the distractions such as messages, calls, during school hours by locking specific apps and features when needed.

All of the aforementioned settings can be managed remotely through the Xplora app, on the parents’ own device. This enables them to adjust controls in real-time based on their teen’s needs and environment.

The new HMD Fusion X1 sports a 6.56-inch HD+ (1612x720p) LCD screen, supports 90Hz refresh rate and offers up to 480nits peak brightness. It also features fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm audio jack, hybrid dual SIM slots (SIM-1 + SIM-2 or microSD card) and also come comes with IP54 water splash resistant certification.

It also boasts of Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset with a 6GB/8GB RAM, Android 14 OS (two years of Android OS updates), 128GB/256GB (expandable), dual-camera module-- 108MP main sensor and a 2MP depth sensor with LED flash on the back, a 50MP front camera and a 5,000mAh battery with 33W charger.

As the device is part of the modular phone Fusion series, the X1 support several snap-on accessories such as battery packs, ring light, gaming controllers and more.

The latest Fusion X1 costs £229 (approx. Rs 25,255) and is slated to hit stores in select markets including the European Union later this year in May.
