In June, Google rolled out the Android 16 update to Pixel phones. Since then, Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus and others have started beta testing the new OS on their respective devices.
Even Nothing Inc. had commenced beta testing Android 16-based NothingOS 4.0 for the Phone (3) series. Now, the London-based company is all geared up to release the stable version of NothingOS 4.0 to eligible devices.
The new OS update is expected to bring a new Material-3 Expressive UI design. It will be more fluid in terms of smooth transition, a natural expressive animation, while launching an app or while switching between apps.
Also, it will bring updated colour themes, a refined home screen grid and more customisable options.
The new OS will also introduce the Live Update feature. It offers options to compatible apps such as cab service, food delivery and e-commerce to show a live feed on the lock screen about the latest status update of the delivery or estimated time of arrival of the taxi.
On Nothing Phone (3), real-time updates can be viewed on the secondary display on the rear side. Also, NothingOS 4.0 may bring more games and real-time information on the back screen.
In older Phone 2 models, the Glyph Interface will be upgraded with new features.

Besides the latest Nothing Phone(3), the new Android 16-based NothingOS 4.0 is expected to be made available to Phone 2, 2a, 2a Plus, Phone (3a), Phone (3a) Pro, CMF Phone 2 Pro and CMF Phone 1.
In a related development, Nothing is all set to launch Ear(3) earphones later this month, on September 18.
The upcoming Ear(3) will sport the trademark see-through design, we have seen in the previous iterations. And, it will come with improved Active Noise Cancellation features and probably deliver longer battery life.
