After launching 'Sora Turbo', a text-to-video generator, Microsoft-backed OpenAI has introduced a new generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI)- based tool, Canvas.
OpenAI was first showcased in October, but it was limited to beta testers and select ChatGPt Plus users. Now, it will be available to all ChatGPT premium subscribers.
Canvas is best suited to software code developers. There, the ChatGPT 4o bot can provide detailed suggestions and logical solutions to improve the codes.
It has the option to log new code additions in a programme. This can help other developers in a team know what new codes were added recently. It will also be easy to debug or correct the code if necessary.
Also, it offers the option to add comments while writing new codes in a programme. With this, junior engineers can learn and understand the logic behind addition of the new code.
The Canvas tool is capable of intuitively understanding the code. It can independently detect and rewrite problematic code to resolve errors. This will greatly help in fast-tracking in completion of the software programme.
And, most importantly, it can even convert codes from one computer language to another in a few seconds. Currently, it can translate codes into JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, C++, or PHP.
"We trained GPT-4o to collaborate as a creative partner. The model knows when to open a canvas, make targeted edits, and fully rewrite. It also understands broader context to provide precise feedback and suggestions,'" the company said.
The Canvas feature is available for ChatGPT Pro($200 approx. Rs 16,937 per month) and ChatGPT Plus ($20 approx. Rs 1,950 per month) subscribers.
OpenAI said it is working to bring more plans in a wide range of price bands to accommodate different types of users, in early 2025.
