Last week, Xiaomi's new Redmi Note 15 and Redmi Pad 2 Pro hit stores in India.

The new Android tablet comes with massive battery to support a big display and features Qualcomm's reliable Snapdragon 7 series chipset. Here's how it fares.

Design, build quality and display

The new Redmi Pad 2 Pro comes in a big display with a slim unibody compact form factor. It features high quality aluminium-based mid-frame and enclosure on the back.

It has a textured geometric design on the top, and the rest of the body has a smooth matte finish, offering a really good grip for the fingers to firmly hold and carry the tablet around.

It is available in three colours-- graphite gray, lavender purple and silver.

On the front, the display is protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 3 shield, which is good enough to resist scratches, daily wear and tear.

Having said that, I still recommend getting a cover case, either a regular folio cover or a keyboard cover case. The tablet is big and even if it falls from a small height, it has a high chance of cracking.

Just to be on the safe side, buy Xiaomi's accessories or any third-party cover cases.

It sports a massive 12.2-inch 2.5K display with a uniform bezel around the edges. Though it is kind of thick, it is perfect for the fingers to rest while watching a video.

Speaking of viewing experience, Redmi Pad 2 Pro is one of the best in its class. It supports Dolby Vision, 120Hz refresh rate and supports peak brightness of 600 nits, enough to binge-watch TV series or movies at home and even outdoors under a shade.

Also, it comes with TÜV Triple Eye Protection certification. It offers protective features which control the emission of blue light during the night and lessen the strain on the eyes when reading e-books or watching movies for long hours.

It is further enhanced by super-powerful quad speakers, two on each side (in landscape orientation). It can fill up the entire room and even at max volume, there is less distortion.

Though there is no fingerprint sensor, it has a facial recognition-based security system with regular pattern and passcode options.

The device comes with a Type-C 2.0 port for data transfer and power charging. In addition to a microSD card, there is also an option 5G cellular version with a SIM slot.

Performance

Under the hood, the new tablet comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 chipset, 6GB/8GB RAM, and 128GB/256GB storage (expandable up to 2TB).

The Redmi Pad 2 Pro is a smooth performer and lasts through the day without breaking a sweat. It is a great option for multimedia consumption, e-commerce shopping, reading e-books and doom scrolling on social media platforms endlessly for hours.

Also, if you have purchased a keyboard accessory, it can be a good alternative for laptops for writers or students. It supports thousands of productivity tools.

Redmi Pad Pro 2 also supports Redmi Smart Pen, but it has to be purchased separately. It comes with ultra-low latency and correct pressure sensitivity, to ensure the user feels comfortable writing on the display like on a paper board.

It is a good tool to explore writing and digital art. My kid, who is in pre-nursery, loves to colour things on the canvas app. I also let the child practice writing alphabets. With a pencil-like scribling sound effect, it makes the learning more enjoyable.

Not just for the kids, it is a great stress buster for adults to draw things on the big screen and let loose their creativity.

The device runs Android 16-based HyperOS 3, which has a familiar user interface. Even for a rookie, it is easy navigate through the settings. It supports generative Artificial Intelligence (gen AI) features such as Google's Circle to Search and Gemini AI application.

The device also features an 8MP front camera and an 8MP main camera on the back. Both are good and take decent photos. The front camera is best used during video calls, and the primary sensor on the back can take good photos of the documents to turn PDFs or any other format with productivity tools.

The Redmi Pad 2 Pro houses a massive 12,000mAh battery, one of the biggest on a tablet in the industry.

With a full charge, it can last an entire day browsing the web, and when put to standby mode, it can last for 83 days. It can support a little over 14 hours of video playback.

With offline viewing, I was able to binge-watch TV series with maximum brightness for a little over two hours on a stretch, with battery dropping around 15 per cent. It is a good tablet to own for multimedia consumption.

The device supports 33W fast charging capability. FYI, the company offers it free of cost with the retail box.

Final thoughts

Redmi Pad 2 Pro is a well-rounded mid-range Android tablet. It has a really big and bright display to consume multimedia content, shop better on an e-commerce app and even play digital board games.

Also, with the feature-rich keyboard cover and stylus, the Redmi Pad 2 Pro becomes even more versatile as a medium to explore your creative side, such as digital art. Also, if you are a writer, it is a portable gadget to carry around, and whenever inspiration strikes, you can pause, look for the nearest chair and start typing on your lap.
