The BJP on Tuesday lashed out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his attack on the government over the renovation of the Jallianwala Bagh memorial, alleging that his party did not even construct a washroom at the site but is now doing politics over the exercise undertaken by the Modi dispensation.

Hitting out at Gandhi, BJP general secretary Tarun Chugh said the Congress leader should explain as to what his party did for the famous memorial, which commemorates the sacrifice of hundreds of unarmed civilians killed by the British forces in 1919, during its rule for decades

17 people killed in Nigeria jihadist attacks

At least 17 people, including a soldier and aid worker, were killed in the latest attacks by Islamic State-aligned jihadists in northeast Nigeria's Borno state, security and militia sources said Tuesday.

Hundreds of fighters from the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) stormed the town of Rann on the border with Cameroon on Monday, pushing troops out of a base and occupying the town for several hours.

The attack prompted a mass exodus of residents towards Cameroon before ground troops reclaimed the town with aerial support.

Delhi schools to reopen tomorrow after prolonged closure, many planning to defer

Several schools in the national capital are set to reopen tomorrow after prolonged closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic while many have chosen to adopt a wait-and-watch approach and will be calling students only after a few weeks.

Following a marked improvement in the Covid situation in the national capital, the Delhi government on Friday had announced that schools for classes 9 to 12, colleges and coaching institutions would reopen from September 1.

Kazakh defence minister resigns after deadly depot blasts

Kazakhstan's defence minister resigned on Tuesday after several explosions at an arms depot in the south of the Central Asian country last week killed 15 servicemen, the president's office said.

The blasts occurred at a defence ministry ammunitions depot in the southern Jambyl region on Thursday, leaving dozens injured and forcing the evacuation of more than 1,000 people from nearby villages. (AFP)

Raging wildfire forces evacuation of major US tourist spot
