Infighting in the city Congress turned murkier when a group of party members shouted slogans against former west Delhi MP Mahabal Misra at a function on Sunday evening.

He was not allowed to deliver his speech from the dais. All this happened at the function organised by his son Vinay Misra in Dwarka area and inthe presence of Delhi Congress chief Arvinder Singh Lovely and other senior party leaders.

The group led by party leader Mahavir Singh, who had unsuccessfully contested in municipal election on party’s ticket, claimed to have ‘exposed’ Misra in front of Lovely.

“Misra has made the party a family business. Misra’s son lost with a huge margin in the Delhi Assembly elections from Dwarka area. Then Misra himself lost his parliamentary seat of west Delhi to the BJP. In  spite of the defeat, he is not letting other leaders to come forward for strengthening the party’s base,” Singh alleged.

“He knows that the residents of the area are against him, but he is desperately trying to continue his politics at the cost of party’s votebank. We have registered our protest to the party’s Delhi unit chief Arvinder Singh Lovely. If our complaint remains unheard, we will knock the doors of party high command,” he added.
‘Relations with mafias’

Another Congress worker Harish Sharma accused Misra for having relations with land mafias.
“There are many complaints against him for facilitating land grabbing in the villages of west Delhi. The party must probe his suspicious links with the land mafias,” he said.

Mahavir Singh was defeated in the municipal elections in 2012 by a mere 212 votes. He claims that Misra is facilitating the rivals of Congress party in the area to defeat all other party leaders except his son.

“He has virtually made the district Congress party as ‘Mahabal Misra and company private limited’. He wants his son to win any election and he will not hesitate to do anything for this,” he alleged.

“Apart from his son, he is also trying to get his other family members and relatives made party office bearers,” Sharma  said.

When contacted, party’s city unit’s chief spokesperson Mukesh Sharma refused to comment on the issue and said that he was not in the city and was unaware of the incident. Repeated attempts to contact DPCC chief Arvinder Singh Lovely were futile.
