<p>Two men who posed as policemen and cheated unsuspecting people of their jewellery have been arrested on Saturday. <br /><br /></p>.<p>The accused would first win over the trust of the victims and then make away with their valuables.<br /><br />The first of a series of such incidents came to police’s notice in April this year when a woman approached them at RK Puram station and lodged a complaint. <br /><br />She was headed to a market in the area when two persons in plain clothes met her at a traffic signal and introduced themselves as policemen.<br /><br />“They advised her to keep her gold bangles and earrings in her bag, warning her of nefarious elements looking out for victims like her,” said a senior police officer.<br /><br />“When she was keeping the valuables in her bag, they even acted as if they were helping her,” the police officer added in his statement.<br /><br />But the accused, using some trick, did not actually keep the jewellery in the bag and the woman realized this only much later. An FIR was subsequently registered.<br /><br />Police were forced to not consider it as an isolated case after they received a similar complaint on May 5. <br /><br />A lady had hired an autorickshaw for Aurbindo Marg, but the vehicle broke down in between. <br /><br />Even before she could hire another autorickshaw, two men arrived on a motorcycle and using the same modus operandi as the previous one, they managed to keep her off guard and fled with her bag containing her jewellery.<br /><br />Police soon learnt that the two suspects would be arriving near Saket Metro station on Saturday to dispose off the stolen articles. <br /><br />Trap laid<br /><br />A trap was laid and Akhlakh in which Mehandi, 29, and 32-year-old Sagar Mishra were caught and arrested from the spot.<br /><br />They have allegedly confessed to police of their involvement in several cases along with three other persons, who police claimed were notorious cheats. <br /><br />Efforts are on to nab the remaining associates and check if the arrested duo was involved in other similar cases, said police.<br /><br />Cheated gold jewellery worth Rs 3.5 lakh have been recovered from the duo, police added.</p>
