<p>An official of the education department in UP’s Siddharth Nagar district was made to return the money he had allegedly taken as bribe for the posting of a teacher at the district Samajwadi Party office.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The education official was let off with a warning not to take bribe for doing work that had been recommended by SP leaders. No complaint was lodged against the official.<br /><br />The bizarre incident happened on Tuesday at the SP office in the district soon after a meeting of SP leaders to condole the death of party leader Mohan Singh.<br /><br />According to reports, a primary teacher, who had been transferred to Siddharth Nagar from Ballia, was running from pillar to post to get himself posted to a school in the district without success.<br /><br />The teacher met the district SP chief Ajay Chaudhary a few days ago and narrated his plight, following which the latter spoke to a senior education department official and asked him to put the teacher in a school.<br /><br />The official, however, demanded Rs 15,000 from the teacher to get the favour done, which the teacher paid.<br /><br />He, however, reached the SP office on Tuesday after coming to know that Chaudhary would be there at the condolence meeting. <br /><br />He narrated the incident to him, after which the official was summoned to the office and was forced to return the money.<br /><br />“He was let off with a stern warning not to repeat it in future,” said a local SP leader. “How dare he take bribe from someone whose case has been recommended by a ruling party leader,” he said.<br /><br />He did not reply when asked why the matter was not reported to higher officials and no complaint was lodged against the official.</p>
