Swiggy-ing it! Bengaluru user spent over Rs 11 lakh on Instamart in 2024; milk, onion and curd among top buys in city

The quick-commerce scene in India has seen a rapid rise and especially in Bengaluru, where consumers seem to prefer the ease of ordering household essentials from the comfort of their homes. The tech-savvy city has topped the list as the most convenience-loving one in the country, if one is to go by the annual 'How India Swiggy’d 2024- Swiggy Instamart Edition' report.

But what stood out in it is that one city dweller spent over Rs 11 lakh on Swiggy Instamart this year, one of the highest in the country!

Reacting to the report, CEO, Swiggy Instamart Amitesh Jha said, "Since launching in August 2020, we've seen Bangaloreans increasingly turn to the convenience of quick commerce, with everything from everyday essentials, toys, beauty, makeup, and even festive essentials delivered in just 10 minutes."

"The top purchases from Bengaluru include milk, onion, curd, and tomato, with a city user spending as much as ₹11,70,077 on groceries, electronics and everything else they need in 10 mins."

The city also led from the front across varied categories and Bengalureans spent more on self care than on electronics, the report said. "A whopping 40 per cent more was splurged on beauty products than on electronics," the report said.

A quick glance at the report also revealed that the fastest delivery took place in Kerala's Kochi- a distance of 180 metres covered in 89 seconds!

But what was interesting was the trend for 'Incognito Mode' on Swiggy. The feature allows users to order food and essentials discreetly and consumers made sure to make full use of it. Buoyed by its thriving business, the delivery platform earlier had said it plans to double its store count to over 1,045 with more than double the area to 40 lakh square feet by March 2025.
