The state-of-the-art expanded plant would be formally commissioned by Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on October 30, company Marketing Director A S Mehta told reporters over phone. Prior to the expansion, carried out at an investment of Rs 315 crore, the plant had a capacity of 3.67 lakh tyres per year, he said. The Mysore plant would produce radial tyres as well as tubless radials meant for trucks and buses.

The plant was being commissioned at a time when the country's auto industry was poised to take the radialisation factor from 10 to 15 per cent in the next two years, he said. The company was looking to surpass the turnover target of Rs 4,000 crore this year as against Rs 3,200 crore last year. He said the Mysore plant would undergo further expansion in the next 18 months at an approximate outlay of Rs 200 crore that would increase its production capacity by another two lakh.
