15 bags of shame the morning after IPL match

A bunch of citizen groups partnered to hold ‘Plog Run Post IPL’ campaign outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium and Cubbon Park on Saturday to remove garbage.

With slogans like ‘My Waste, My Responsibility’ and ‘Think Before You Throw’, members of Bangalore Eco, Green Rhodes, Runners 360 and Robin Hood Army were clearing plastic even as the city celebrated Ugadi.

More than 50 volunteers filled 15 bags, picking plastic from 6.30 am to 8.30 am. Each bag contained 8 to 10 kilos of waste which they later handed to BBMP workers.

Clearing the waste left behind in the stadium and at Cubbon Park by IPL fans the previous evening, the volunteers campaigned about ‘plastic-free’ city.

“Cricket lovers coming with snacks and drinks throw the remains everywhere. Let them seek entertainment. That’s not a problem. But let them make cleanliness a priority,” said Nagaraju, a volunteer.

“Increasing plastic use has affected human health day by day. When civic workers are at such low numbers, it’s difficult to collect so much garbage. The public should think for two minutes before dumping trash (everywhere),” he added.
