Bengalurean is CEO of physicians' group in US

Dr Badrinath Konety, an alumnus of Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru, has been appointed the CEO of the University of Minnesota Physicians (UMP) and the Vice Dean of Clinical Affairs for the Medical School. He is the first Indian to be appointed to the post. He will take office on December 1.

Dr Konety is a globally recognised expert on prostate and bladder cancer and a proven academic and clinical leader. He is currently working as the Dougherty Family Chair in Uro-Oncology, Director of the Institute for Prostate and Urological Cancers, and the Medical School’s Associate Dean for Strategy and Innovation. He previously served on the UMP Board of Directors and as the Chair of the Board's Finance Committee.

"As CEO, Dr Konety will serve on the Executive Leadership Team of M Health Fairview and will oversee, with his dyad partners, service lines and shared clinical services throughout the health system. In addition, he will lead our work to further the UMP/Medical School operational alignment which will ensure the strength of the group practice and our capability to fulfil our land-grant mission to serve our state," said Jakub Tolar, Dean of the Medical School and UMP Board Chair.

Dr Konety will build innovative clinical partnerships, develop and steward the Master Clinician track, play a key role in faculty recruitment, serve on the dean's leadership team, and lead in strategic planning efforts for the clinical mission," Tolar added.
