Bengalureans who had forced the state government to drop the idea of building a steel flyover from Basaveshwara Circle to Hebbal feel shocked and betrayed by the sudden announcement that the project will be revived.

Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara's assertion to this effect on Tuesday quickly snowballed into a political controversy with the opposition BJP slamming the coalition government. BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa himself led the charge.

"When he was in the opposition, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy had joined environmentalists in opposing the project. Now, the deputy chief minister has suddenly resurrected the project. What is the intention? The matter must be discussed in detail in the legislature."

Yeddyurappa urged the government not to take a hasty decision and said it was "undemocratic" to do something that people "detest".
