The city police on Saturday arrested two drunk bike-borne men for beating up traffic policemen.

The incident occurred when their bike was stopped during a special drive against drunken driving in Bellandur. The accused later ransacked the police station when taken for questioning.

Rahul Tripathi (22), a native of Haryana, and Aditya Srutriya (24), from West Bengal, working as interns at the Landmark company in Yamaluru, live in a paying guest accommodation in Marathahalli, the police said.

According to the police, in the early hours of Saturday Ashok and Nanje Gowda, constables at the HSR Layout traffic police station along with ASI Narayanappa were deployed for the special drive in front of the police station.

Around 1 am, Ashok noticed Tripathi and Srutriya coming towards them on their motorcycle in a rash and negligent manner, so as to avoid the
police.

Ashok and Gowda managed to stop the duo and found them intoxicated.

When the policemen tried to seize the bike and demanded their documents, the duo turned aggressive and assaulted the policemen.

Helmet used in attack

Narayanappa, who rushed to their rescue, was assaulted with a helmet and a broken tree branch. The duo even tore his uniform.

Hearing the commotion, other staff at the station along with a few passersby overpowered the duo and brought them to the station.

However, the duo didn’t tone down and continued to ransack the police station, smashing computers and
furniture, assaulting the staff.

As the traffic police alerted their law and order counterparts for back up, they rushed to the spot and arrested the duo.

The men have been charged with assaulting public servants, criminal intimidation and damaging public property along with drunk driving in a rash and negligent manner.

The two were produced before a magistrate and remanded in judicial custody.
