Residents urge Bescom to fix power cut issues

Last Updated 18 June 2018, 16:33 IST

Residents from the East Bengaluru areas of Sarjapura, Attibele and Dommasandra have expressed anguish over the frequent power outage, during a meeting with the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (Bescom) on Monday.

They handed a complaint and memorandum to Bescom officials, saying intermittent power cuts have become all too common in the past two months, which causes inconvenience to residents of multi-storey apartments that depend a great deal on power.

They pointed out that power supply is necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of sewage treatment plants and household appliances. While poor road infrastructure forces most of them to work from home, the power outages have made things more difficult, they added.

"Most of us have spent Rs 50,000 to maintain generators, lifts and other equipment. We've been trying in vain to meet local Bescom officials for the past two months. We decided to meet them today and get the problems addressed," Sarjapur Residents Welfare Association secretary V R Joy said.

Bescom assistant executive engineer Rajkumar said the power issue will be fixed in two days. Insisting that the power outages have been taking place only for the past two days, he said the issue was due to overloading of supply feeders.

"Bad weather, uprooted trees and civil works undertaken by the corporation and BSNL have further aggravated the situation. We've tried to solve the issue by distributing the load on the feeders to ensure a balanced supply," Rajkumar added.
