A 20-year-old youth was stabbed to death by his friend over a suspected love affair in KR Market on Monday night.

The deceased, Najmal Hussain, a native of Assam, was living in a rented house on Ulsoor Road.

The police have formed a team to nab the suspect, Zummu Khan (32), a native of Manipur.

A senior police officer said Hussain was working in a juice centre in Shivajinagar. Zummu Khan was working in a neighbouring meat shop and both were friends.

On Monday night, Hussain went to meet his friend Momai near the City Market. As he was sleeping, Hussain spoke to his wife and left.

Hussain saw Khan and suddenly Khan picked up a quarrel, and in a fit of rage, Khan stabbed Hussain and fled.

Hussain was laying in a pool of blood and shouting for help. Momai and his wife rushed to his rescue and shifted him to Victoria Hospital. However, the victim did not respond to the treatment and died on Tuesday the police said.

The police said that both used to quarrel over a love affair and they suspect that Khan might have killed him over the same issue.

"We are waiting for the parents of Hussain and meanwhile recorded a statement from Momai for further investigations. The exact motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained," the police officer added.
