High security alert at KIA

Last Updated 19 September 2019, 14:50 IST

In the wake of the terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka, a high security alert has been sounded at the Kempegowda International Airport.

Security has been beefed up at all key installations within the airport and frisking of passengers intensified.

This comes just two days after over 170 passengers bound for Singapore were stranded at the airport after an alert raised by a passenger.

The traveller, mistaking a bag for a gun-like article, had raised the alarm just as the Scoot Airlines flight was about to take off early Tuesday morning.

The high security alert could increase the already long waiting time at the airport’s security gates. In this regard, KIA’s operator, Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), tweeted a passenger
advisory.

The advisory read: “The high-security alert at the #BLRAirport might mean some additional wait time, queues and delays. We are working hard to ensure your safety. Do plan your travel accordingly. Apologies for the inconvenience caused.”

A BIAL spokesperson said the airport has already been on high security alert since March, when the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) issued a pan-India notice after the Pulwama terror attack.
