A 32-year-old man was arrested for making a hoax call to the police control room on Monday night, claiming that he had planted a bomb at Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy’s residence in JP Nagar. He told the police that he was depressed over the CM not allotting him a free house to him.

JP Nagar police arrested Mansoor, a native of Sedam in Kalaburagi district for making the hoax call. Mansoor was staying in a temporary shed at Kudlu. He had come to the city four years ago, and was working as daily wage labourer.

A senior police officer said that Mansoor called the police control room on Monday around 9.43 pm, claiming to be one Gopal, and told the police that he had planted a bomb at the CM’s residence. He further said that the bomb is going to explode in some time, and abruptly disconnected the call.

Thereafter, JP Nagar police, along with the bomb disposal and canine squads rushed to the chief minister’s residence on Monday night. All family members were sent out of the house, and after a thorough check for nearly three hours, the police concluded it was a hoax call.

Number tracked down

Later, JP Nagar police registered a case and started an investigation. Mansoor’s mobile number was tracked down and based on the call records and the tower data, he was arrested on Tuesday from his shed at Kudlu.

During the interrogation, Mansoor confessed that he had made the call to draw the chief minister’s attention so that at least now the chief minister would call him and allot a free house.
