The announcement of the results of the Joint Entrance Examination (Advanced) on Sunday brought cheer and relief to many students in the city, who are aspiring to get admission into one of the premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in the country.

Anirudh Sunder Raj from RV PU College secured All India Rank 131 by scoring 301 marks out of 366 in the exam. “I was hoping to get a rank in double digits. I couldn’t do that but I am happy with my result. I was confident I would be within the top 150,” Anirudh said.

He wants to study computer science in the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. “I have always loved Mathematics but I was more interested in applied science than pure science. I asked around and found that computer science has the most application of Math,” he said. Anirudh credits his performance to his consistent effort from the beginning of Class XI, following a timetable to study and coaching classes at BASE. Anirudh had secured the third rank in engineering in the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2017.

Having secured the 217th rank in the country, Ninad Huilgol can get into the IIT of his choice but his interest lies elsewhere.

“I was never keen on getting into an IIT. I have been interested in Physics from the beginning and I want to study in the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru,” Ninad said. JEE Advanced scores are accepted to qualify for admission to IISc. Ninad was focused on his class XII CBSE board examinations and his preparation was mostly using practice papers at BASE coaching centre. The student of Delhi Public School (South) scored 96.4% in Class XII and secured 199th rank in CET engineering.

Sumanth Hegde, who came second in engineering in CET, secured All India Rank 504 in JEE (Advanced). Sumanth, a student of VVS Sardar Patel PU college, has his eye on IIT-Bombay or Madras and for the past two years, he was focused on preparing to get there.
