A cashier at the Kaveri Grameena Bank was robbed of Rs 2 lakh by two motorcycle-borne men in the Chikkapete area of Doddaballapur town, about 35 km north of Bengaluru, on Tuesday.

T Ramaswamy withdrew Rs 10 lakh from a State Bank of India branch, kept Rs 8 lakh in a bag and the rest in another. He came out of the bank and was waiting to hire an auto-rickshaw to go to his workplace when two men rode up. In a flash, the pillion rider snatched the bag that contained Rs 2 lakh, and the two-wheeler sped off.

Ramaswamy raised an alarm drawing passersby. Some people chased the duo for about a kilometre before giving up. The suspects later dumped the two-wheeler and escaped with the cash.

The Doddaballapura town police rushed to the spot after being informed and seized the bike. The vehicle is registered in the name of Narendra M, a resident of KR Puram. Police are looking out for him.
