Women from this community broke free from the stereotypical image and tried their hands at an array of performing arts, right from Bollywood dance to monoacting recently.

For many, who performed on that day, it was the first stage appearance but there was not a single sign of stage fright.

The event started with a wonderful number by Resham Makija who danced
to the songs from Devdas and Jewel Thief.

Resham is a mother of two young children and she had also participated in beauty pageants in her younger days. She mesmerised the audience with her spectacular performance. Next on stage was Kashish, who performed a traditional Rajasthani dance. The audience cheered through her performance. A monoacting by Deepa in Sindhi dialect humourising the beauty pageant contestants had the audience in fits of laughter.

But it was when the team of ten women took over the stage to showcase their dancing talent that the festive mood soared through the auditorium.

They got the biggest round of applause for their performance of Discowale disco and Prem ki Nayya songs.

An interesting thing was that a mother and daughter pair shared the same stage for the dance performance.

The ladies present there had another reason to celebrate. Shobha Kalro, the president of Bangalore Ladies Chapter had been elevated to the post of the president of All India Ladies Chapter.

“This festival is all about bonding. It shows our bonding with community members, with our tradition and also our bond with the City. The globalisation has made our children strangers to our own tradition. So, it is an humble effort from our side
to popularise the age-old Sindhi tradition among youngsters,” says Shobha Kalro, the president.

On the occasion, an exclusive recipe book of Sindhi dishes, Flavours of Sindh was released by Beharilal Menda, southern region president of Sindhi Council of India.
