Two coaches of Kolkata Metro derail, services disrupted

The accident took place when the Kavi Subhas-bound train got stranded in a tunnel. The passengers were evacuated through an emergency exit, the Metro Railway spokesperson said.

"The two coaches got derailed while the train was entering the Central Station. The derailment occurred due to a mechanical snag," the spokesman said.

The Metro services were disrupted between Maidan and terminal Dum Dum stations, the spokesperson said, adding that "we are running a truncated service between Maidan and Kavi Subhas".

City Additional Commissioner of Police S. Mishra said a couple of passengers were taken ill due to trauma. "They were sent to hospital."

He said the city police and the Kolkata Metro Railway Corporation will jointly investigate the cause of the accident.
