Suicide pact: Woman dies, kids hospitalised in city

Lakshmi (25) wife of Muddushetty, Koorgalli is the victim. According to Vijayanagar police, Lakshmi set herself on fire after pouring kerosene along with her children Prakash and Rajesh in the night. She succumbed to the injuries, while her kids are undergoing treatment at ICU in K R Hospital. The reason behind their extreme step could be ascertained after obtaining the statement from the kids. A case has been registered.

Chain snatched

Adding to the increasing cases of chain snatching, a homemaker on stroll was relieved of her ‘mangalsutra’ worth Rs one lakh in the city on Wednesday.

Sharada wife of Nandakumar, of T K Layout is that woman. She was on her regular evening stroll around 5 pm, when she was attacked by two moped borne youth. She was pushed to the ground before robbing off her valuable on  second cross of Maruthi Temple road. Saraswathipuram police have registered a case.

Four jailed

Four convicted of dowry harassment have been sentenced to three years of imprisonment, besides imposing a fine of Rs 2,000 on each.

Judge of Fourth Additional Civil and JMFC Court, Sabappa awarded imprisonment to Umesh son of late Chowdaiah of Ramanuja road in K R Mohalla and his mother Nagamma, brother Raju and his sister-in-law Vasantha for proven charges of harassing his wife Sowmya for dowry. Umesh had been given Rs 50,000 cash and gold valuables as dowry at the time of marriage. But it wasn’t enough for the family as they allegedly began to harass Sowmya demanding more.

The harassment took an ugly turn with Sowmya losing her baby in miscarriage following the assault.  She had lodged a complaint at Women’s Police Station, said a release from assistant public prosecutor H E Chinnappa.
