Model commits suicide, boyfriend being questioned

Rinky Choudhary, who acted in a few films and TV serials, a fashion model, was found hanging by her boyfriend Sahil Malik at her Vallabh Society home’s kitchen on Thursday evening.

Police said they did not suspect any foul play as of now and the motive behind the suicide was not yet clear.

No suicide note was found, they said adding that her boyfriend Sahil was being questioned in this regard.

“Rinky, suffering from a heart-related ailment, had been residing alone at her flat near Oshiwara depot since the past few years,” said Surendra Paithankar, Senior Inspector at Goregaon police station.

On Thursday evening, Sahil was at her residence painting the bedroom walls. As the paint fumes were irritating Rinky, Sahil told her to go to the kitchen following which she went there and bolted the door from inside, he added.

Around 6 pm, a courier delivery man came to her residence with a letter addressed to Rinky when Sahil went to the kitchen to inform her. But the actress did not respond after which Sahil called on her mobile phone but in vain.

“Suspecting something amiss, Sahil broke open the door and found his girlfriend hanging from the ceiling of the kitchen. He brought her to the hall where he splashed water on her face. When she did not respond to that, he informed the police about the incident,” the officer said.

Rinky was initially rushed to Siddharth Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. Later she was shifted to the Cooper Hospital for post mortem, he added.

“Preliminary medical examination has revealed ligature marks around her neck as a result of the hanging,” said Paithankar.

Learning about the incident, Rinky’s family has left to Mumbai from Kolkata, he said.
Sahil has said he had been in a relationship with Rinky for the past one year and was to marry her soon, Paithankar said.

“It is learnt that Sahil’s former girlfriend, Shyamli Jain, who was also a model in the city but currently residing in Delhi, had objected to the marriage and frequently calling up Rinky since the past few weeks,” he said, adding Shyamli would be called for questioning, too.
