Police have booked a case of murder and are looking for Balraj, the husband.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the couple used to fight often. On Thursday night, in middle of one of their fights, Balraj lost his cool and set her ablaze. Neighbours and friends shifted her to Victoria hospital and she succumbed to burns on Saturday early morning, police said.

Fake watches seized

The CCB detectives arrested Praveen Kumar and Ramesh Kumar and recovered fake watches worth Rs 65 lakh. The suspects would supply the look-alikes to merchants at National Market, N S Bazaar and surrounding areas. They had stocked the fake watches at their shop, Deepam Times in Chikpet, G K Temple Road and Uttaradhi Mutt Road.

The two were arrested following information collected by the police after the arrest of seven persons during raids on shops at National Market and N S Bazaar, during which fake watches worth Rs two crore were recovered. The inputs provided by the suspects helped in arresting Praveen Kumar and Ramesh Kumar, added the police.

Fire at supermarket

Tension prevailed for a while on early Friday morning, when thick smoke billowed out from the basement of Big Bazaar on Old Madras Road. An alert security guard, who noticed the smoke followed by flames around 4.30 am, immediately alerted the fire services.

Five fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was put out in 15 minutes. None was injured but packing materials and other waste stored in the basement were destroyed.
