Sound 'n' light show on Krishnadevaraya in Hassan

As part of the tourism department’s initiative to hold a sound and light programme on VIjayanagar King Sri Krishnadevaraya to mark 500th year of his coronation, the Hassan city will host two-day son-et-lumiere show between Nov 21 and 22.

Briefing reports about the event, Deputy Commissioner Naveen Raj Singh said the tourism department has come up with the programme to introduce the golden era of Sri Krishnadevaraya to the people of state. The year coincides marks the 500th year of coronation of Vijayanagara king Sri Krishnadevaraya. Watching history through characters is more appealing to people than reading the subject, he said and added that Vijayanagara empire would come alive through the sound and light show in the city. Children should also visit the show to know the history of Vijayanagar. The entry will be free, he said.

Nagesh, the representative of Innovative Lighting Systems which is conducting the show said there would be no characters in the show. Instead, all the main monuments and structures of Vijayanagara and Hampi will be erected and they would come alive in the show, rendering their history. Replicas of Virupaksha temple, the sounds of Tungabhadra flowing, the breeze brushing past the crops standing tall, would be projected through temporary models and lighting. The programme will start at 7 pm, he said. The fall of Hampi or Vijayanagar empire is being shown using 20 projectors, to provide a feel of Hampi turning into cinders. The show was directed under the supervision of filmmaker Nagabharana, he added. To a query, Deputy Commissioner said that the Hasanamba grounds, where the administration hosted Chief Minister’s programme will be open to public from Dec 1. The sports persons will have to pay a fee and register themselves in the office before Nov 22, he said.

He clarified that the district would also host the Hoysala Utsava soon. He also said that the administration has undertaken a survey on the Government land and encroachment of the same would be cleared after the survey was completed.
