10.5 kg Ketamine seized at BIA

Jakarta-bound passenger had packed the drug in a water heater

Khayum, a resident of Chennai was arrested while he was trying to smuggle Ketamine, a general anaesthetic drug used on both animals and humans, and also as a rave party drug. Khayum was to board a flight to Jakarta and had tickets for travel from Bangalore on July 2 and a return ticket for July 4.

The airlines officials who grew suspicious of Khayum informed the immigration officials.

On conducting a thorough check, they found that Khayum was transporting a water heater which weighed more than it should. He had packed the Ketamine in the water heater.

On interrogation Khayum said that his friend from Chennai wanted him to deliver the water heater to a person in Jakarta.

He said his friend had instructed him to claim that the baggage contained plastic articles. Khayum has been handed over to the customs officials.

According to customs officials, Khayum has been transporting several appliances to Jakarta regularly. It may be recalled that a person from Jakarta was arrested at the BIA for carrying drugs.
