JOIN USAlthough the incident took place in September last, the crime branch CID nailed the school owner’s son Piyush Verma recently after a DNA test confirmed that the sperm stains found on the student Divya Bhadauria’s clothes were those of Piyush. On the basis of the test, the CBCID on Thursday made Piyush the prime accused and his elder brother and father as co-accused though initially the police had given a clean chit to them.
Divya was a sixth standard student of Bhartiya Gyanasthali School in Kanpur. On September 27, last year, she was found lying unconscious in a pool of blood near the gate of the school. She later died in hospital. The post-mortem report revealed that Divya was subjected to unnatural sex and killed thereafter.
Divya’s mother had alleged that the two sons of the school owner Chandrapal Verma were involved in the crime but the police had arrested a neighbour of the victim. The police inaction had evoked a sharp reaction in the town and social and political outfits had staged demonstrations following which the investigation was transferred to the CBCID.
