Labour union stir on February 15

Speaking with the reporters here on Thursday, the City President of the Union, Jalandhar Shetty Kavoor said that the poor labourers who have been given APL cards are suffering to a great extent as they are unable to bear the medical expenses at both these hospitals.

“Wenlock and Lady Goschen hospitals which were providing free medical treatment to the poor patients earlier are not doing the same now. The Union demands to cancel the fixation of medical bill to the poor who are having APL cards and provisions must be made to them under Arogya Raksha Kavacha Samiti,” he said.

Other demands of the union include, to cancel the plan of shifting hospitals to the city outskirts, prevent corruption in the government hospitals, provide proper facilities to the pregnant women, laying strict rules for the doctors and the like. Jalandhar Shetty has urged the authorities concerned to increase the hospital beds in ICU from 7 to 30.

“We have already submitted a plea to the Deputy Commissioner, but have not received any response and so as a last resort, we will stage the protest on February 15 in front of Wenlock hospital,” he informed.
