Hike in petrol prices condemned

However, now the people have lost confidence on the government for its failure in tackling the rising inflation. The sudden hike in the rate of petrol by Rs 5 per litre has come as a rude shock to the people, especially of those belonging to the middle class.

The protest rally was taken out from the Hemavathy statue and culminated at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, where they submitted a memorandum in this regard.  

Dissolve State Assembly

The Congress party activists, led by district unit president B Shivaramu, said after the Supreme Court verdict quashed the Speaker’s order on disqualification of 16 BJP MLAs, the BJP-led state government has become minority government. They urged the president to dissolve the State Assembly They submitted a memorandum to the Governor through the Deputy Commissioner, in Hassan on Monday.

The agitators flayed that the government has lost majority after the Supreme Court’s verdict and condemned the State Legislative Assembly Speaker K G Bopaiah for taking hasty decision only to help the BJP. But, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, who wants to continue in power, has indulged in the ‘Operation Kamala’ again. The president should immediately dissolve the Assembly, the members added.

BSP members hold stir

The members of Bahujan Samaj Party staged a protest near the deputy commissioner’s office in the city on Monday, against the failure of the police in arresting miscreants who torched the portrait of Dr Ambedkar at Hanchuru village in Alur taluk.

Dr Ambedkar’s portraits were kept at various places in the taluks to celebrate Ambedkar Jayanthi recently.

It is said that some miscreants torched the photos on the same night and insulted the great leader. The protesters alleged that though the police knew the culprits they have not been arrested so far. Three suspects are from Chatnahalli village and one from Devihalli village, and they should be arrested immediately, they demanded.
