“Savings oriented banking in India is very much foolproof and depositors did never face any kind of loss since 1966. At the same time, their deposits were all returned in time with interest,” said Karnataka Bank former Chairman Ananthakrishna.

Addressing senior citizens after releasing a brochure on ‘Benefits available to senior citizens under the various government schemes’ at a programme organised by the Mangalore Senior Citizens Associations and Lions Club Mangalore at Lions Seva Mandir here on Monday, he said that savings oriented banking should be given more prominence. He said that the Karnataka Bank is the only bank which extends maximum rate of interest to senior citizens. The bank also offers several other benefits to senior citizens, he added.

Ananthakrishna felicitated two distinguished senior citizens S Narayana Rao and M Mukunda Prabhu, who rendered meritorious service to the society on the occasion. Lauding their achievements, Ananthakrishna said “those who share their wealth for society’s cause will be richer again and will be successful in their life.”

Ananthakrishna was also felicitated by the organisers on the occasion. Lions Club Mangalore president M Arun Shetty, Women and Child Welfare Department deputy director A Shakunthala, Mangalore Citizens Association vice president P S Kini and secretary K Ramesh Rao were present.
