Tipped off that a 15-year-old girl, from Sholapur in Maharashtra, was being married off to a Railways employee, the members of the women’s organisation rushed to the spot, along with officials of  the department of women and child development, the police and the members of an NGO.

Soon, the bride’s parents sent away the girl to another place, besides announcing that the wedding had been cancelled. The women’s organisation members demanded that the girl be produced before them, leading to a chaos.

Later, the girl was brought to the Balamandir and was questioned. The families of the class nine bride and the groom gave an undertaking that her marriage would be conducted only after she turns 18.
