In response to the allegation, Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council Puttanna referred the matter to the Privilege Committee of the House.

He further stated that the government’s actions were a breach of legislator’s privilege and a violation of fundamental rights.

He said that the government was monitoring the movement and activities of Opposition members with the aid of intelligence units. He said that two intelligence officials Shivakumar and Kumar had visited his village Venkatapura, in Tumkur district, and were collecting information about his income, political connections and his support groups.

Ugrappa said that the two officials had questioned his aged mother, relatives, local leaders and other villagers.

Home Minister V S Acharya flatly denied these allegations and said that the government had not given any directions to spy on Opposition members.
