Addressing a news conference NITK Surathkal Director Prof Sandeep Sancheti said that Central Counselling Board (CCB) for conducting the counselling and allotment of seats to Engineering/Technology and Architecture/Planning at NITs, IIITs, Centrally Funded and
Self Financed Institution (SFI) within India, is headquartered at NITK Surathkal.

Prof Sancheti said that though online counselling was started a couple of years ago, with an aim to further strengthen and improve the process, few important changes are being introduced in this year’s counselling process.

Firstly special provision has been made to correct erroneous entries made by candidates with regard to his/ her state of eligibility and category. The State of eligibility of the candidate is the state where the candidate has appeared for his/her qualifying examination.

This year improvement has been brought about in the counselling and choice filling. Choice filling can be done during June 11 to 23 and locking choices can be done from June 18 to 23.

There is provision for withdrawal and filling of new choices during the fourth and fifth round allotment.  Spot round has been included this year. Registration for spot rounds will be during August 11 to 13.

The choice filling against vacant seats at that time along with seats offered by SFI can be done from August 11 to 13.

Prof Sancheti said that for the convenience of the candidates more reporting and help centres have been set up and already the centres have been getting outstanding response as large number of students and parents have been corresponding for inquiry.
On an average the centre has been receiving over 600 mails per day.

In addition to this, to facilitate students, a talking tutorial (PPT) and video registration, choice filling and locking are available in CCB website, www.ccb.nic.in. These are available in both English and Hindi so as to bring clarity and remove confusion among aspiring students.

Electronic fee payment and refund, improved AIEEE score card and leaflet to all potential candidates during AIEE Examination are some of the other changes brought in this year.
Prof Sancheti said that major problem faced by them during counselling is either loss of password by the candidates or loss of admit card.

The CCB is looking at various possibilities to tackle the problem, he said.
