Tamil Nadu tourism showcased

Elaborating on the novel initiatives undertaken by the Government, during a programme organised in the City on Thursday, Secretary of Tourism, Tamil Nadu Government, Dr V Irayanbu said that a new ‘Guest Care Programme’ had been launched in Tamil Nadu recently, to involve all the stakeholders in the Tourism industry. As part of this programme, ‘Tourist-friendly autos’ were also introduced. Interested auto drivers were roped into the programme and their autos were painted with pictures of tourist spots. Special training on tourist-friendly culture, hospitality and tourist information were imparted to them.

Dr A C Mohan Doss, Director of the Tourism, Tamil Nadu, said that 646.58 lakh tourists visited the State in 2008 of whom 626.18 lakh were domestic tourists. The prestigious Hop-on Hop-off tour on East Coast Road provided quick and convenient travel to amusements centres, he added.
