Sugar cane growers set deadline

Speaking to media persons here on Monday, association president Kurubur Shanthakumar said for the year 2010-11, the minimum support price (MSP) should be fixed at ` 2,500.
While the government had fixed the advance at `1,800, it is yet to fix MSP.

He said the cost of growing sugar cane comes to around ` 2,250 for farmers.

He accused sugar factories of hoodwinking farmers and delaying payment.
