Dogs maul patient in hospital

Last Updated 31 July 2011, 18:35 IST

Sikander Khan (40), who had burnt severely after being electrocuted, was brought to the emergency ward of the Ursala Hospital on Friday evening, according to hospital sources.
Eye witnesses said some stray dogs attacked Sikander in the wee hours of Saturday as he lay unconscious on his bed and ate away large portions of his thighs and legs. “By the time, the dogs were shooed away, they had inflicted severe injuries on his body”, they said.

The doctors at the hospital, however, alleged that Sikander had died of his injuries on Friday night itself but the body could not be shifted to the morgue. They admitted that dogs had eaten up some portion of his body but said that he was dead when the dogs had attacked him.

Taking the matter seriously, the hospital administration, has suspended two contractual employees including a ward boy and a security guard. “A committee has been formed to investigate the matter...we are also looking into the charges of laxity against a staff nurse”, hospital officials said.
