"We have decided to change our system of assessment of new medical colleges. This will bring in more transparency and accountability. This will also rectify the problem of fraudulent faculty," said Dr Purshottam Lal, Board Member of MCI.

While surveying a new medical college, he said all matters will be video recorded.
"This will help us to deal with problem of duplicate faculty.

"When inspecting a college we will have a videography facility in hand. Many a times it has happened that one person appears as faculty for more than one medical college. Once we have a video footage we can check if it is the same person who appears as faculty in more than one medical college," he said.

All medical colleges will also have to update details about themselves in different websites. They will also have to update details of in-patients and bed occupancy and have a biometric system of attendance, he said.

"We are also thinking of having a local person as observer will assessing a new medical college. We are open to to any other suggestions for process of assessment so that the need for surprise inspection of a college does not arise," Dr Lal said.
