In 1857, a huge British army retinue camped on the banks of the river Malaprabha. On hearing about this, Nargund’s brave men launched an attack against the British. The British officer, Manson, was killed and hung on the fort in Nargund.

Later, another army led by Colonel Malcolm attacked Nargund. At that point, several men within Bhaskar Rao Bhave’s camp were won over by the British. Bhave’s men lost the battle, and his mother and other family members committed suicide by offering themselves up to the river Malaprabha.
