More rain likely today, tomorrow

On Monday morning the City received nearly 8 cm rainfall. This follows the downpour between 2 am and 7 am. According to B Puttanna, Meteorologist at India Meteorological Department, Bangalore, “When the reading for a day crosses 7 cm, it is treated as heavy rainfall.”  The rainfall recorded at HAL airport crossed 9 cm a couple of days ago, he added.

“We can expect heavy rains in Bangalore and many parts of Karnataka for the next two days. There is also a possibility that the rainfall level could hover around 10 cms,” he added.
Elaborating on the technical aspects of the present conditions, Puttanna billed the weather condition as ‘Breaking monsoon’. The present chill in weather experienced was due to upper air cyclonic circulation taking place in the South West Bay, that adjoins the coasts of North Tamil Nadu and Southern part of Andhra Pradesh.
