Delayed power projects to lose approval

Last Updated 14 November 2011, 17:48 IST

Speaking after the launch of the ‘Energy Park’ and the KREDL website here on Monday, Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje only 1653 MW has been commissioned out of 16500 MW approved by the KREDL.

She said the decision was taken as demand for power has exceeded by 15 per cent every single year and the State is not in a position to meet the requirement.

She said increasing generation of clean power has become  the need of the hour as society is against the implementation of large-scale thermal projects.

With a Geographical Information System (GIS) portal and online application registration system, the revamped website provides much scope for customer interaction and regular updating of information on the projects which are commissioned and working.

Prizes were given to the winners of a state-level essay competition on the occasion. Joshua M from Chistaraja English School bagged the first prize comprising a purse of Rs 10, 000 and Ranjitha J C, Government High School, Kadur got the second prize with a purse of Rs 8,000  and the winner of the third prize, Aalisha Simran from Carmel School Bangalore was given Rs 5,000.
