Heroin worth Rs 4 crore seized

Lala Ram, a resident of Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, was taken into custody from Paschim Vihar district park in west Delhi on Tuesday evening while he was waiting for a customer, said Sandeep Goel, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime).

Four kilogram of fine quality heroin concealed in a bag was recovered from him, he added.

Ram, a class eight dropout, told the police he used to work as a casual labourer. After the marriage of his two daughters, he fell into deep debt.

“To pay off this debts, he started supplying heroin to drug traffickers in Bareilly and Delhi.

He procured raw opium and morphine from Murshidabad in West Bengal, which was then processed into heroin in Bareilly,” said Goel.

Police said efforts were on to apprehend other members involved in the syndicate.

Nigerian held

A Nigerian was arrested for drug trafficking and cocaine worth more than Rs 25 lakh was recovered from him.

Chuna Bensin was nabbed near Sultanpur Metro station on Tuesday, said Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap and arrested him when he came to deliver 10.55 gm of cocaine to a client.

Bensin is a native of Lagos in Nigeria and has been living in Vasant Kunj area in the capital from the time he came to India two months ago on a business visa. He started exporting readymade garments, shoes and other accessories from Delhi to his country.

He came in contact with Obi, a Nigerian drug trafficker in Mumbai, who was staying at Dwarka in south-west Delhi. Obi used to meet Bensin at DLF Promenade Mall at Vasant Kunj and roped him in to supply drugs, police said.
