External Affairs Minister S M Krishna had himself paid for the expenses incurred in his private stay during his visit to Britain in June last.

It is clearly mentioned in the official file that the minister himself had made the payments for the expenses, sources said.

Report about Krishna watching a Wimbeldon match in the UK had sparked a controversy in the wake of the prime minister’s advisory to his ministers to avoid foreign travels.

The issue has come again into focus as the Central Information Commission on Thursday directed the External Affairs Ministry to reveal details of the private visit undertaken by Krishna on an application made by noted RTI activist S C Agrawal.

The RTI applicant said that the Ministry had denied information to him.

In a statement, the Ministry said the transparency commission had upheld its decision of not disclosing the record of discussion between two foreign ministers.
