Three citizens from Belgaum district have filed a writ petition before the High Court of Karnataka, questioning the delay in the appointment of the Lokayukta.

Siddanagouda C Patil, Manohar S Kattimani and Ashok Amargouda Patil have sought a directive to the State government to appoint the Lokayukta at the earliest. According to them, the delay in appointment was affecting the performance of the ombudsman as several cases were held up after the previous incumbent, Justice Shivraj Patil, quit the office in September 2011.

Chief secretary, principal secretary to the Governor and the State government had been arrayed as respondents in the petition, which is yet to be listed for hearing.
