Six held after they fire at police

Four criminals and their two juvenile accomplices were arrested after a brief exchange of fire in south west Delhi, police said on Tuesday.

Naveen, 19, Lalit, 21, Neeraj, 19, and Sudeep, 19, all are residents of Jhajjar in Haryana, were arrested from Jaffarpur area, said A K Ojha, deputy commissioner of police (south west).

The arrested people are members of the notorious Manipal gang and have their involvement in several cases of robbery, murder and car jacking in Delhi and Haryana.

“We have recovered one assault rifle, three countrymade pistols with 13 live cartridges, a robbed Maruti Swift car and some looted jewellery from them,” added Ojha.

They were apprehended following an investigation into a sensational robbery incident which occurred on January 30 in Bindapur area.

Police received an information that some members of the gang would come at Rawta Mor a stolen Swift car on Monday night, he said.

“Two teams were sent to nab the criminals. A trap was laid and the criminals were apprehended with weapons. They had fired on the raiding party but could not escape the arrest,” added Ojha.
