Last Updated 09 May 2012, 20:10 IST

The judicial officers of the High Court have finally approved the shifting of the City wing of the Lokayukta Court to the third floor of the Lokayukta office in MS Building.

Justice Sreedhar Rao and Registrar General of the High Court Krishna Bhat, who visited the Lokayukta office along with Lokayukta Court Judge N K Sudhindra Rao, approved the shifting of the Court back to the City.

The Court had been shifted to the premises adjoining the Parappana Agrahara Central Jail, after the violence in the City Civil Courts complex on March 2.

Long distance

However, the long distance one had to travel to reach the Court, had turned out to be a bane for the accused, witnesses and lawyers. The lawyers had been pleading ardently for the shifting of the Court.

According to sources in the Lokayukta, a work order has already been issued to ready the place on the third floor before May 18.

The entrance to the Court will be from the first block of M S Building and not through the Lokayukta office. The Lokayukta Court which is on vacation now will resume work on May 21.

However, the Advocates’ Association of Bangalore has decided to request the High Court administration to shift the Court back to the City Civil Courts complex. At present, the Lokayukta rural court continues to function outside the City Civil Courts complex.

Also, there is a proposal to establish another court, as the City wing of the Lokayukta Court is overburdened.
