Heroor Gram Panchayat members took to task the staff members of a private company who created chaos while registering beneficiaries under Rashtriya Swasthya Bhima Yojana meant for the family members of the labourers, on Monday.

The programme is implemented by both, the Center and the State and it covers five dependents of BPL families, construction workers, railway department vendors and hawkers and roadside vendors. The beneficiaries will have to pay a registration fee of Rs 30.

A private company from Bangalore, which has been given the responsibility of collecting biometric details and the photographs of the beneficiaries and their families, held a programme at Heroor GP on Monday. The company representatives came to Heroor GP without any prior intimation to the GP.It was seen that when the labourers and their family members came forward to get their photos clicked, the staff kept them waiting citing software problem.

Further the staff members were also seen talking rudely to the beneficiaries. This raged GP former president C U Nataraj who said that the beneficiaries have come to get their photos clicked keeping aside their day’s work. “They do not deserve to be treated like this,” he said adding that if the smart cards cannot be issued to the beneficiaries on the same day then there is no point keeping the private company staff members in the GP.

When the staff members said that the smart card will be issued to the beneficiaries the following day, the people who waited for long time to get their photos clicked lost their cool.
