A school boy from Bangalore, who is studying at St John’s Residential School in Chennai, has been given the rare privilege of attending the Nobel ceremony this year after he won the Grand Award in Chemistry at Intel India Science and Engineering Fair.

Raghavendra Ramachanderan (16) won Intel’s Grand Award and the Glenn T Seaborg Nobel Trip Prize for demonstrating a process to remake fuel through a process using sunlight.

His experiment concerned with deoxygenating an organic compound using ‘photo catalyst’ (sunlight) which can be used as a fuel.

“It’s (the ceremony) to be held in December and I get goosebumps even thinking about it,” he said, referring to the December 10 award ceremony, the death anniversary of Alfred Nobel who instituted the prize.
