Tihar inmate alleges sodomy

A 32-year-old prisoner in the high security Tihar Prisons has complained of being sodomized by a warden and another inmate.

The victim, a resident of Lahori Gate lodged at jail number one on theft charges, alleges that warden Yogesh and inmate Jafar sodomized him. “He made the allegations when he was recently produced before a Saket Court,” a police official said.

He claims that it all began after he had an argument with deputy superintendent of jail number five and two wardens in May. He alleges that the deputy superintendent and Jafar were demanding money from him, which he denied.

“The victim alleges that one day head warden Gangadhar and Jafar took him out of his barrack and paraded him naked inside the jail. Yogesh and Jafar then allegedly sodomized him,” a source said.
Judge at the Saket court had directed police to get the victim’s medical examination done to confirm the allegations.

“We have taken the victim for medical examination and the report is awaited. We have also registered a case. No one has been arrested,” said V Renganathan, additional commissioner of police (west).
