Construction worker electrocuted

A construction worker was killed and three others sustained severe burns when they accidentally touched a high-tension wire in Girinagar on Tuesday evening.

The dead has been identified as Dodda Mallappa, 30. The injured, Chikka Mallappa, 20, Maunesh, 30 and Ajith, 19, are being treated at a private hospital in Muneshwara Block. The condition of Maunesh and Ajith is stated to be critical. Dodda Mallappa’s wife had delivered a baby 13 days ago.

Dodda Mallappa and Chikka Mallappa are brothers, while Maunesh is their cousin. All the four are natives of Yadgir district and had come to Bangalore a few months ago to eke out a living. They were working at an under-construction house at Srinagar. The four were giving finishing touches to the house when the accident occurred.

It is said that the house is being constructed illegally under a high-tension wire. Electricity was being drawn to the house from a nearby pole using a wire. Dodda Mallappa was electrocuted when he touched the wire. The three others suffered burns in an attempt to rescue Dodda Mallappa.

Rules do not allow any construction below high-tension wires. The police have booked a case against the owner of the house, Madan Kumar Reddy.
